Caste-based reservation in Indian Army

Reservation on the basis of caste in India is a post-independence concept, which was introduced to uplift the backward section of India. Scheduled castes and scheduled tribes are given leverages in various fields like medical, engineering and they are shown leniency in government jobs too.
but there have been many demands of bringing the army under the reservation system. in 2017 union minister Ramdas Athawale brought it up and demanded a reservation for the SC/STs in Indian army. He was waved off by people and government both

Moreover, we can see the condition of other sectors which have a reservation, competent candidates are superseded by those who got chosen because of their caste and the person who actually deserved to be there leaves the country for a better opportunity or gets faded away in the crowd, in both the cases country is at loss. So many able engineers, doctors and economists leave the country and who are left behind are not able to match the level of competency they had.
If we put the army under reservation then groups will be in the army on the basis of caste and Indian would lose so many excellent army officers just because they were not in certain caste. So, reservation on the basis of caste or any other parameter is a bad idea.
